The song is partly a reference to Saint Augustine, an African Bishop of Hippo born 354, who was a great writer; 5 million of his words still survive today, the most famous being Confessions. He is also the subject of the Bob Dylan song “I Saw Saint Augustine” Also of interest is the fact that St. Augustine’s family name, Aurelius, suggests that his father’s ancestors were freedmen (former slaves who has been released from slavery). Blood Orange is an alias of Devonté Hynes also known as Lightspeed Champion and member of the now defunct Test Icicles. His first release under the 'Blood Orange' moniker was in June 2009 via his personal blog. 'Said No' and 'Champagne Coast' appeared as a ltd. 7" bonus disc for the fourth release on Rise's album of the month club. 500 copies pressed on orange-coloured vinyl.
